Pool Operator's Course

This course was designed for pool operators who have no national certifications acceptable for operating a commercial swimming pool or spa. This course will be offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Public Health. It is only available to residents in the Peninsula District (Newport News, York County, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and James City County). The course covers circulation, filtration, chemistry, safety and includes a manual.

Stranco Control Systems Basic Training School

This school is for pool operators that utilize a Stranco Automatic Control System. It discusses basic operator guidelines for operating commercial pools and spas circulation and filtration systems. Chemistry and it's effect on Stranco Chlorine/pH controllers will be reviewed in detail. A proactive preventive maintenance and safety program will be presented on CO2 feeders, bleach and acid pumps, and erosion feeders using Bromine or Trichlor.

Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification Course

The AFO, NRPA's Aquatic Facility Operator certification course, is a training program designed to meet the needs of those working in public, semi-public, and municipal pool or waterpark facilities. The AFO program offers a unique discussion of risk management, not usually directed towards operations personnel. The course is designed to provide information and training for both supervisory and operations personnel.

Course Content

This 2 day course provides in-depth instruction in all facets of aquatic facility operation and management including: filtration, disinfection, water testing and treatment, design considerations, facility management, risk management, facility troubleshooting, hot tub & spa operation and much more!

The AFO instructor team is comprised of the top aquatic professionals in the United States. AFO instructors have diverse backgrounds in aquatic operations, management, chemistry and must complete a two-day training course in public presentation, speaking, and technical aquatic skills.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the AFO course and exam, participants will be officially certified by the National Recreation and Park Association. All certified individuals receive a certificate suitable for framing and registry in the National AFO Certification Database. Certification is valid for three years and is renewable.

Certified Pool-Spa Operator (CPO) Training Course

TheĀ  CPO, the Certified Pool-Spa Operator program is designed to provide individuals with the basic knowledge, techniques, and skills of pool and spa operations. The CPO certification program is widely accepted by health departments. The CPO Handbook, 2009 Edition, has been updated to include the most current information available, including the addition of metric calculations.

Course Content

The CPO certification program requires participation in a two day course (14 -16 hours) taught by a certified Instructor. The CPO certification program includes pool and spa chemistry, testing, treatment, filtration, maintenance, automatic feeding equipment, and government requirements.

Quality Instructors

Instructors receive comprehensive training and certification to teach the CPO certification program. These instructors represent every segment in the aquatic industry including operators, health officials, service professionals, builders, manufacturers, property managers, retailers, and academicians. The training these instructors provide has helped protect millions of swimmers by reducing hazards at aquatic facilities.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the CPO course, and passing an open book written exam with a score of 75% or higher, participants will receive a nationally recognized certification from the National Swimming Pool Foundation. All certified individuals will receive a certificate suitable for hanging and a wallet sized certification card. Certification is valid for five years and is renewable.
